Jewish Educational Media is pleased to announce that it will be featuring the work of Photographer Sholom Goldstein in its flagship product, Living Torah.
Goldstein, a fixture in Crown Heights who serves in many capacities, including wedding photographer, began as a teenager to film the Rebbe. His shots are known to be smooth, clear and well-composed. The materials to be featured in Living Torah were filmed during the years 5747-5752 (1987–1992) and were captured mostly on special days at 770 – such as Purim, Chanukah, Yud Shevat and the festive month of Tishrei.
For Goldstein, filming at 770 is in the genes. His father, Rabbi Yosef Goldstein, photographed some of the earliest films of the Rebbe in the 1950s and 60’s on an 8mm film camera.
According to Goldstein, Living Torah, now entering its sixth season, has transformed the experience of watching videos of the Rebbe. Clearly, seeing his work featured on this prominent stage, is a matter of personal pride. “It’s safe to say that there were many, many problems trying to film these scenes. At the time, it was a true sacrifice. People could not understand what I was doing. Now that they will be included in Living Torah, presented with JEM’s beautiful editing, Chassidim will finally be able to benefit for some of that hard work.”
The scenes filmed by Goldstein will begin appearing in Living Torah within the next few disc releases.
Living Torah is viewed by tens of thousand around the word and among its many DVD features are subtitles in six languages: English, Hebrew, French, Spanish, Russian and Portuguese and children's narrations in both English and Hebrew.
